Why couldn’t Ben just use the force to start pushing buttons on Vader’s chest, It would have to do something?
If I remember correctly, they’re just for maintenence and a few minor respiratory regulators, but changing it wouldn’t cause any real harm
Yah, of all those buttons one must be the off switch.
Maybe there was a history eraser button there too. That would be the red one.
wait, does that light really flash? i need to check this out now…
Seriously, all those buttons just seem a tad exposed. I mean, if one of them’s an off switch, why place it in plain site so your enemy has a chance to push it? At least put some plating over it or something. Yeesh.
This is why Darth Vader has the two-handed, tight fighting style he has, to defend the chest plate.
the little flashy lights are just a distraction! you hit it and it opens a wormhole sucking the offender into OBLIVION!!!!
I always wanted to see one of the Jedi just start pressing Vaders buttons to see what happens.
In the Darth Bane books they talk about the force bubble that well-trained Jedi and Sith create around themselves when in combat. You can see this in the fight between Anakin and Ventress on Yavin 4 in the original Clone Wars series. Vader’s force bubble would prevent Kenobi from doing something like manipulating buttons, unless he was strong enough to break through Vader’s bubble.
That explanation came a little late to the Star Wars universe, though it’s interesting to hear about it. Thanks!
of course, an enemy would have to get within an arm’s length of Vader to push 1 of those buttons
The way the Force works in canon, one can affect objects easily only that are not part of someone’s own Force aura. You might as well call it a bubble, but everyone has their own aura in the Force. People who are Force sensitive have a stronger aura and they can manipulate it. Thus, when attempting to use the Force on someone, or something directly in someone’s Force aura, you have to overcome the aura first, that is, beat the target person in a battle of Force power. Though it occurs very quickly, it requires a fair amount of concentration, while defense requires much less. It is thus a risky business, and since you also need Force to then manipulate said object, you must be significantly stronger in the Force than your opponent.
This is why combatant don’t go around turning off each others lightsabers (or Vader’s console), but can hurl objects at each other. This is why it is relatively simple to Mind Trick a normal stormtrooper when you are trained in the Force, but nigh impossible to do it on a Force user of equal standing, etc. This is why Telekinesis (force push, levitate, etc) should not work on unwilling sentients, or at least it should be much much more difficult to pull off.
