 Welcome
Welcome to Visionaries Online: Prysmos.com

The Age of Science has ended, and the Second Age of Magic has begun. The world of Prysmos is now inhabited by magical creatures and wizards. This new dark age for civilization has resulted in feudal societies being formed from the ashes of a technological utopia. Now new city states wage war upon one another for land and power, using the sword rather than the court room. Thanks to the great wizard Merklynn, 14 Knights have gained magical powers of transformation. The group is divided between the good Spectral Knights and the evil Darkling Lords. Now they battle for supremacy and Merklynn's favor.

The Visionaries was a 4-inch action figure toyline that was released by Hasbro, Inc. in 1987. The toy line was known as "Visionaries, Knights of the Magical Light" and had spin-offs in the form of both an animated television show and comics.

The Knights' holographic chest plates with the symbols of their totem animals, along with their holographic power staffs, gave the action figures and the animated series a great gimmick to work with.

Neil Ross voices Leoric (Lion Totem), leader of the heroic Spectral Knights, consisting of: Feryl (Wolf), Ectar (Fox), Cryotek (Bear), Galadria (Dolphin), Witterquick (Cheetah) and Arzon (Eagle). Chris Latta voices Darkstorm (Swamp Mollusk), leader of the Darkling Lords, consisting of: Cindarr (Gorilla), Lexor (Armadillo), Virulina (Shark), Mortdred (Beetle) and short-tempered Cravex (Winged Phylot).

Unproduced Visionaries Art
New art from the unproduced 1988 line of Visionaries is now available for viewing in the photo gallery. Please leave your thoughts and comments on the characters and vehicles that might have been. More to come soon...

Wayne Thompson, a collector based in Canada, has acquired several pieces of unproduced Visionaries art. The art illustrates characters, vehicles and the playset planned for 1988 that never saw the light of day, likely due to the high costs of producing the holograms and a mini-stock market crash in 1987.

Wayne promises to share more as soon as he can scan and upload them. Thanks Wayne. Enjoy!
Roscoe Lee Browne Dies at 81
Actor Roscoe Lee Browne, who appeared on the New York stage for nearly 40 years, died on April 11 in Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer. He was 81.

The voice of the mercenary and thief, Reekon, Mr. Browne's gruff characterization brought the villain to life almost as vibrantly as his performance of the sagely wizard Merklynn. His presence was undeniable and the transformation of Merklynn from a crotchety selfish old man into a crotchety but friendly ally is one of the most endearing things about the character. Roscoe Lee Browne's history as an actor both on the screen, on stage and as a voice can be read in the biography on this site located here. He will be greatly missed.

Interview with Neil Ross
Neil Ross was the voice actor for the character of Leoric, leader of the Spectral Knights. Visionaries might be an obscurity today, but Neil Ross' voice isn't. Most people on the street will have heard Neil Ross' voice at some point either on radio, television or movies. He is one of the friendliest and most talented voice actors in the business. I had the pleasure to interview Mr. Ross, and later I'll be talking to him about Visionaries and the other animated shows he worked on. But for now, I hope you enjoy Neil's thoughts and memories on voice acting and the industry.

Fiesel’s Doomsday Bomb
In Visionaries issue #3, it is revealed that thousands of years ago a meteor crashed near Gravestone Bay, which had strange properties that made machinery and principles of science impotent when in close proximity. The scientists at the time reasoned that if it was turned into a bomb and exploded into the atmosphere, all of Prysmos would be thrown backwards as technology was rendered useless.

However, a government coup and several thousand years later, an ancient scroll is the only proof of the bomb's existence. Arzon is excited, believing that the Spectral Knights can use the bomb to reverse the Age of Magic's principles and bring back science, thus putting an end to people's suffering... So would the bomb have worked, or was it just a load of hokum? For this month's article, Rod Hannah asks the question: "Could Fiesel’s Doomsday Bomb actually shift Prysmos back into the Age of Science?"

Villain Character Analysis
Chimeradave presents an in-depth look at three of the Visionaries' villains-- Darkstorm, Cravex and Virulina-- in what will be an ongoing series examining the characters that we thought we knew. As you will find, each character has a very different personality and each was shaped by different environments. Each article is a personal analysis based upon the interpretation of the author.

Head over to the Articles section to view the first set of character studies.
Interview with Flint Dille
Visionaries Online conducted an interview with Flint Dille back in 1999. Flint has worked on many of the great animated shows of the '80s, including: G.I. Joe and Transformers, as well as the lesser known Inhumanoids and Visionaries. He also wrote the screenplay for the animated film An American Tale: Fievel Goes West. Fans of these shows may not realise just how much Flint's writing helped flesh out the characters. He added wit and humor which would flew over the heads of most kids of the target audience and kept us amused as adults today. Our interview focuses on Flint's interests and hobbies, along with-- of course-- the Visionaries animated show, of which he was Script Editor and writer.
